PreK and Elementary Classes (K-5)

Class Description: 

The Pre-K, K4, we would like to welcome all potty-trained 3-5-year-olds to register for preschool class! God's love for us and how we love Him will be our foundation in all things. We will honor Him as we learn and grow together throughout the year. We'll engage in structured play, arts and crafts, songs, books, games, circle time, and various fun activities. Our focus areas will include developing early math, reading, writing, and social skills. We will also enjoy using scientific tools and reasoning to explore this amazing world that God created for us. Preschoolers will need to bring a prepared snack and lunch each day. 

Kindergarten/1st English

Class Description: 

Kindergarten & 1st Grade are the foundation for all higher learning. Some of the skills that students will learn: Kindergarteners will learn the alphabet (vowels & constants) sounds, phonics rules, reading, and practicing handwriting. 1st graders will build on the reading & writing skills they previously learned in kindergarten. 

We will review parts of speech and sentence structure. Students will use learning manipulatives such as Hot Dots and sentence-building dominos. We will also practice handwriting and sentence structure by writing in journals. My hope is that this class will inspire a love for reading and writing. 
 

Kindergarten/1st Math

Class Description: 

This class will be a combination of Science & Social Studies.

Did you know that you can walk on eggs, microwave a lightbulb, use a potato to make a battery, or that a child invented the popsicle? These are some of the hands-on activities we will do in class. We will also do some STEM projects & Science experiments along the way.

Some of the people we will cover: Lewis & Clark, Sacagawea, Benjamin Franklin, John James Audubon, Katherine Johnson, Rosalind Franklin

In this class, we’ll dive into a variety of fun projects, including painting, creating clay pieces, making colorful collages, and exploring drawing techniques. This course builds foundational skills in grammar, spelling, reading, and writing through engaging, wholesome lessons. This math class will offer a supplement to your math curriculum. Hands-on activities, manipulatives, and games will be used to strengthen basic math concepts:

  • Basic operations and beginning algebraic thinking.

  • Understanding and use of place value in base 10.

  • Working with fractions.

  • Different kinds of measurement (liquid, time, length, volume, area)

  • There will also be games and activities to work on logical thinking skills.

2/3rd Grade Exploring Science

This science class will focus on physical science. We will explore different forms of energy, energy conversions, renewable and nonrenewable energy, and how to conserve energy. We will also examine how matter and energy work with simple machines and motion. We will end with a unit on chemistry. 2/3rd Grade History of the States 

Thursday Class Cost: $285 Year

Class Description: 

This class is part Social Studies and the other part Geography. We will learn how the states got their shapes, names, and state laws. Did you know in the state of Texas, it’s illegal to shoot a buffalo from a hotel? It’s also illegal to walk barefoot. Students will also get to taste & sometimes make their favorite foods from each state. I will put together a binder for each student.

4/5th Grade English

4th/5th grade science will focus on topics related to physical science. We will begin by looking at different forms of energy and how energy can convert from one form to another. 4th/5th grade math will supplement your math curriculum using games, manipulatives, and activities. Puzzles and problems will be used to help increase logical thinking. We will also continue to practice basic math concepts, spending time on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers. We will go deeper into fractions, looking at equivalent fractions and how to add, subtract, and multiply fractions. Fractions lead to learning about decimals. Students will learn: Why these events happened & how they happened, and what we learned from these events. We will cover the Underground Railroad, states' rights, the Holocaust, Pearl Harbor, and Boston Tea Party, to name a few. This class will not be focused on memorization of facts, as students will cover American & World History again, but this class will be going over the reasons, the battles that were fought, and the outcomes.

4th/5th  Grade Art (Fall Semester) &  Cooking (Spring)

Fall - Art Students will learn about famous artists & we will make projects inspired by their work.

Spring - Cooking - students will learn basic cooking skills and food safety. The goal is for students to make a complete meal by themselves at the end of the class.

This course will offer students a hands-on experience of stage performance and production. The students will learn foundational theatre techniques, including stage directions and scene work fundamentals. This course enhances performance by introducing basic staging concepts, such as blocking and spatial awareness. Collaborative scene work will allow students to practice teamwork, creativity, and interpretation of dramatic texts. Through interactive exercises, students will develop their character development, improvisation, and voice projection skills. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to explore, create, and have fun. By the end of the course, students will gain confidence in performing and an appreciation for the art of theater.

Bible exploratory class will establish a foundation for basic Biblical knowledge. We will learn the types of literature in the different books of the Bible. We will examine how understanding a bit of the culture and language helps us better understand what is written. We will also look at the timeline from Genesis to the present and see how and where the stories fit the timeline and relate to secular history.

We will follow a weekly PE Curriculum that focuses on coordination, motor skills, strength, dexterity, and flexibility.  We will end the class with a massive holiday themed obstacle course challenge celebration. It’s going to be a blast!

This class is based on a proprietary curriculum put together by our very own Dr. Oliver.  We will utilize interactive games and activities to teach students various soft skills that aid them in emotional regulation, and relational dynamics.  Students will learn from the wisdom of Proverbs  in each lesson and practice weekly exercises to grow in their ability to thrive in social environments.  Lessons include learning how to practice patience, encourage others, manage anger, handle disappointments, helping others, respecting authority, overcoming peer pressure, value of hard work, choosing wise words, choosing honesty, and gratitude.

This course will include writing and grammar techniques using Fix It Grammar and IEW Curriculum.  In this class, we will cover additional concepts and advanced style techniques from the IEW LEVEL B Year 1Curriculum.  It is ideal for students in grades 6-9.  Prerequisite: IEW Level A

6-8th Grade Physical Science and/or General Science

General Science:  (Ideal for 6-7th Grade students that have not taken Pre-Algebra)In Apologia’s Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd Edition, students will gain an understanding of the world that surrounds them so they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of Creation.Students will learn: How to utilize the proper scientific method in a detailed and engaging way.How to record data and report it.How to read, create, and utilize several types of graphs (a skill that is found on standardized exams!).

Physical Science:

BJU Physical Science – 6th Edition, 

Class Fee (Including Books): $210-  New Student Text and Lab Manual will be ordered by Instructor 

Class Fee (Not including books): $60- Parent will order student textbook and lab manual (ISBN and details below)

Students will analyze, evaluate, and draw conclusions about five themes in physical science on the basis of biblical teaching, including (1) order in nature, (2) science and dominion, (3) role of modeling, (4) pursuit of science, (5) ethics of science.

This course is ideal for 7-8th Grade.  6th graders who have strong math skills and reading skills will also thrive in this class.  We will use the BJU Physical Science curriculum 6th Edition. Student book and lab manual are both available from Christianbook.com if you choose to order them yourself.

We will use BJU Writing and Grammar Curriculum for your child’s grade level along with the IEW Windows to the World Literary Analysis program to guide them through a year of Literature and Creative Writing.  

We will learn how to: 

  • Annotate literary works

  • Analyze elements of literature: setting, plot, characterization, imagery, allusions, parallelism, and much more

  • Identify specific tools and techniques when we read a work of literature, the literary devices commonly used by authors and why they work well, and how authors succeed in conveying tone, theme, character, irony, point of view,
